Dear Sir or Madam

It has come to my attention that you are advertising and promoting Greyhound racing. Despite greyhound racing being legal in the UK, it is a self regulated industry and viewed by many as morally wrong due to the serious welfare issues that have been raised over recent years. There has been extensive media coverage over the last decade highlighting the cruelty that exists within greyhound racing. The dogs are used as a commodity to make profit and are regularly destroyed when they are no longer commercially viable, cases of mutilation, bludgeoning, drowning, doping, shooting and also destroying dogs at the tracks for minor injuries are all too common and this has no doubt impacted on the industry, contributing to the massive decline in greyhound tracks across the UK and resulting in financial crisis for all those involved.

Cases of doping dogs have been highlighted on TV on shows such as Panorama 2015 In 2006 David Smith a builders merchant killed around 10,000 greyhounds by use of a captive bolt gun on behalf of greyhound trainers, he was not punished other than breach of waste legislation. Unfortunately it is fully legal to bore a hole into a dogs head using a bolt gun, a more economical method of killing which has been known to cause dogs prolonged pain and suffering prior to death.

Animal welfare organisations such as The League Against Cruel Sports – GreytExploitations – Caged North West and Grey2K USA Worldwide are working hard to bring an end to the cruelty of the greyhound racing industry.

Please consider the above information. I understand that you may not have researched the facts about greyhound racing prior to becoming involved in any promotions.

I hope that you will kindly consider removing your current advertisement for greyhound racing and refrain from advertising any future promotional offers that raise serious concern for animal welfare.
