Dear Sir/Madam

As an Italian citizen and owner of a much loved rescued Irish greyhound, I was very concerned to learn that the Irish Greyhound Board works very closely with the domestic and international teams from Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland in promoting a night at the dogs.

The greyhound industry, in which dogs are injured, killed, mutilated and dumped, is bad for Ireland’s image and should not be promoted by your national tourism bodies. Ireland has so many wonderful tourist attractions – there is no need for Tourism Ireland or Failte Ireland to resort to using dog racing as a selling point.

In Italy betting on dogs is illegal, and many Italians are horrified at the prospect of greyhound racing being sold as a ‘tourist attraction.’

I appeal to you therefore to consider the cruelty which is inherent in the greyhound racing industry and the image of Ireland that you would like to promote, and stop promoting greyhound racing.
