Comunicato di Albano Martins, presidente di Anima Macau, sulla campagna “ClosetheCanidrome”

Pubblichiamo la lettera che Albano Martins ci ha inviato e che ha rilasciato in un comunicato stampa in cui aggiorna sui prossimi step della campagna “ClosetheCanidrome” per ottenere la chiusura definitiva del famigerato Canidrome e riuscire a salvare più greyhound possibili.

Siamo ormai in una fase molto delicata. The situation now in Macau regarding the greyhounds is this:

Canidrome no more received any more greyhound as the track has to close up to the end of 2018, by the Government decision. Up to the end of 2015, Canidrome was killing 24 animals per month ( in 2014 and before were 30 per month), because Australia began to put more obstacles to the exports of greyhounds to Macau. At the end of 2015, no more Australian greyhounds came to Macau. The only animals Canidrome was capable to receive were 9 from Ireland, that are being sold this Saturday in public auction! As they do not have more dogs, they have to reduce the races per day from 18 to 15 in January 2016 and 12 in June this year. As the animals continue to get injured and they do not have more animals, the number of races per week changed from 5 days to 3 days and they seem to reduce more to 2 days per week. As a consequence of the lack of animals they ” only” killed around 52 animals this year up to the end of November by Anima calculations!

However, they are not answering our request to receive all animals before all will dye! I strongly believe that if the Government is not capable to convince them to give us the animals, one of the two situations will happen: or they dye all, or they will be sold to China, Vietnam, etc, etc, and later will also dye racing or as a meal!

Anima has a meeting in Portugal with the Minister of Agriculture (an animal friend), to prepare, if we receive the greyhounds, the move of all the remaining Greyhounds from Macau to South of Portugal by a charter plane rent for that. If we get the funds we need, we will built an international rehoming center in Evora ( Portugal) capable to receive at least 2,000 animals of all types in an area of 50 ha!

The meeting will happen this month! We want only the authorization to move the animals! Just that! No funds, no other type of support! And we will create around 30 news full time jobs! This is our project! Is still a project! Everything depends only of two key point: will we receive any greyhound alive? We will get the funds! The last point should be the less difficult!
